Statement by Chairman and CEO of NextEra Energy on EPA's Final Regulations for Cooling Water Intake Structures at Existing Facilities

05/21/2014

“As North America’s leading clean energy company, we rely on cooling water when generating power from a wide variety of fuels, including U.S.-produced natural gas and emissions-free nuclear power. And we fully appreciate the need to balance the health of our water resources with the need to produce reliable and affordable energy.

“The final rule reflects the EPA’s constructive engagement with multiple stakeholders, including the electric utility industry. While we are still reviewing the rule in detail, we are pleased that it does not impose a national one-size-fits-all standard but rather adopts a plant-specific, technology-based approach that can address the uniqueness of each water body.”
